1 Nephi 5:10

10  And after they had given thanks unto the God of Israel, my father, Lehi, took the records which were engraven upon the aplates of brass, and he did search them from the beginning.
-how familiar, if at all, was Lehi with the contents of the brass plates?  Were the contents widely spoken of in the Jewish community at Jerusalem?  Were they referenced on the Sabbath or in meetings at the temple?  Was this the first time Lehi ever had the opportunity to handle and to search them?  To hold these records in his hands and to read them was certainly not only a blessing but an indescribable privilege.  Try and consider how Lehi must have felt regarding the scripture record at this moment... do we feel similarly toward the scriptures or have they become mundane to us?  Have they lost their value because of their ubiquity and easy access in our lives?
