1 Nephi 3:3

3.  For behold, Laban hath the record of the Jews and also a agenealogy of my forefathers, and they are bengraven upon plates of brass.
-Several questions arise out of this passage:
            1.  Why does Laban have these records/genealogy?
            2.  Why does there only seem to be one copy of these records?
The answers to those two questions would undoubtedly tell us much of the circumstances of the time, culture, people, etc.  Although we don’t have definite answers, sound consideration can indicate a few presumptions that help us visualize the era more effectively.

1.       Was Laban’s possession of these records common knowledge at the time or are these truths a result of pure heavenly enlightenment?  In other words, how much of this situation –Laban’s possession of the plates as well as the contents of the plates- was know to Lehi beforehand?
