-Several questions arise out of
this passage:
1. Why does Laban have these records/genealogy?
2. Why does there only seem to be one copy of
these records?
The answers to those two questions would undoubtedly tell
us much of the circumstances of the time, culture, people, etc. Although we don’t have definite answers,
sound consideration can indicate a few presumptions that help us visualize the
era more effectively.
1. Was Laban’s possession of these records common
knowledge at the time or are these truths a result of pure heavenly
enlightenment? In other words, how much
of this situation –Laban’s possession of the plates as well as the contents of
the plates- was know to Lehi beforehand?
